Smart Connect

From now on Germanwings is offering lots of new connecting flights within Europe. We have been able to further extend our route network thanks to the one-stop principle, as follows:
You start your journey from your local airport, change planes in Cologne, Stuttgart or Berlin onto a second Germanwings Airbus and then fly on to your destination. Changing planes is easy, quick and secure – typically Germanwings.

Here's how it works

Before starting your flight

Before you start your flight make sure you are aware of the immigration requirements (visa or passport) for your final destination and also the place where you will be changing planes.

Your luggage

Please note that you always have to collect your luggage and check it in a second time when you travel on a one-stop flight.

The baggage surcharge is only levied once meaning there is no extra surcharge to be paid between the airport you change at and the final destination.

One stop flights via Cologne or Stuttgart

In Cologne and Stuttgart there is a clearly visible Germanwings transfer desk in the baggage arrivals hall. This is where you check you baggage in again and where you receive your boarding card for your next flight. Simple as that.

One-stop flights via Berlin

In Berlin you collect your baggage and go to the normal check-in desk. The check-in desk is clearly signed and only 100 metres from the baggage arrivals area. This is where you check in your luggage again and where you receive your boarding card for your next flight.

Can I make changes to bookings with one-stop flights?

Important note: Customs regulations for third countries

If your departure airport is not in the EU, for customs reasons our transfer windows in the baggage arrivals halls can unfortunately not be used for check-in. This is the case for one-stop flights from the following departure airports:

Belgrade, Istanbul, Izmir, Moscow, Split, St. Petersburg, Zadar and Zagreb

Please collect your baggage in the baggage arrivals hall and go to the normal check-in desk. Hand over your baggage here and you will receive your boarding card for the connecting flight.
